When Graeme McDowell won the 2010 US Open it seemed to open the floodgates for Northern Irish golfers to follow in his wake and within just over two years they'd mopped up another three, courtesy of Rory McIlroy (twice) and Darren Clarke. When Rory McIlroy won the 2011 US Open he mentioned how seeing Graeme McDowell win his major had inspired him because he knew without any disrespect to Graeme, that if he could do it then so could I. This then helped Darren Clarke to lift the claret jug in 2011 as he knew both Graeme and Rory had looked up to him over the years and they had managed to cross the finish line in front, so why not him? When Justin Rose completed his fine victory at Merion on Sunday evening and I witnessed the delight..
