When Rory McIlroy won the 2011 US Open he mentioned how seeing Graeme McDowell win his major had inspired him because he knew without any disrespect to Graeme, that if he could do it then so could I. This then helped Darren Clarke to lift the claret jug in 2011 as he knew both Graeme and Rory had looked up to him over the years and they had managed to cross the finish line in front, so why not him?
