Cheltenham 2013 - Quantifying The Trends
09:41 Strategy I thought I would take a look at the leading Cheltenham Trends but not in the usual way. What I will be looking to do is evaluate the chance of a key trend being maintained this year and post-Cheltenham, looking at the results to see how many trends were again met and how many were broken. From the data, it will be possible to see the overall merit of following the most robust trends or otherwise.... more Last Comment: 09 March 18:42 Read Blog Mar 3
Horse Racing Tutorial - 'Guaranteed Winner' Of The 3.40 Southwell Tuesday March 5th
22:24 Strategy A contributor on the Horse Racing Chat forum pointed out that he reads many different comments on the same race for different horses, all of which sound plausible but most of which will be proved wrong. He is in luck if he reads this though as I can guarantee I am making a brief but succesful case for the winner of the 3. 40 Southwell on Tuesday 5th March. 3.... more Read Blog Feb 20
Horse Racing Tutorial - How To Profit From Being 'Nearly Right'
21:02 Strategy In this slightly lengthy but hopefully worthwhile blog, I will be looking in-depth at three of the tools available to punters and identifying ways that each might be used profitably. Ultimately though, I hope to be able to combine all three into one simple strategy to bolt onto my favoured way of betting, the win-only market. To make the Blog more readable, I have broken it down into the following chapters; 1. Background Behind the Blog - A Light-Hearted Start! 2.... more Read Blog Dec 8
Horse Racing Saturday TV Racing Preview
00:04 Horse Racing Saturday's Racing Preview Races Covered 1. 55 Sandown 2. 10 Aintree 3. 20 Aintree I am firmly a Sprinter Sacre fan in the Tingle Creek but there are more appealing betting opportunities through the afternoon. 1. 55 Sandown - Nicky Henderson unveiled another potential star chaser in Captain Conan 3-weeks back and given the way this 5-y-o jumped round Cheltenham, it might take a fool to oppose him today.... more Read Blog Oct 20

10:31 Horse Racing Sunday's Racing Preview Races Covered 2. 00 Goodwood 2. 15 Ffos Las 2. 35 Goodwood 2. 50 Ffos Las 2. 00 Goodwood - Goodwood's final meeting of the year kicks off with a handicap for jumps jockeys and Leighton Aspell, who has won this race previously, is aboard the favourite Presto Volante. They must have a big chance but Timmy Murphy has also won this race and he rides WATERFORD STAR for Ian Williams.... more Read Blog Oct 13

I think we can forget the disasterous July Cup attempt; drop to 6f, first time headgear, bottomless ground etc.... more Read Blog Oct 7
Football League One Previews - October 13th / 14th
20:57 Football Football - League 1 Preview Matches Covered Bournemouth vs Leyton Orient Preston vs MK Dons Shrewsbury vs Walsall Bournemouth vs Leyton Orient - Bournemouth are in a sorry state on and off the pitch. Four straight defeats and no win in six has left the club looking like relegation candidates already. The sacking of manager Paul Groves, as is so often the case, preceded a loss and Coventry were the benefactors last weekend.... more Read Blog Oct 6

23:45 Horse Racing Sunday's Racing Preview Races Covered Uttoxeter 1. 40 Uttoxeter 2. 10 Kelso 2. 20 Huntingdon 2. 30 Uttoxeter 2. 45 Kelso 2. 55 Huntingdon 3. 15 1. 40 Uttoxeter - Taquin Du Seuil is an interesting French Recruit but NO NO CHARLIE looks potentially above average. After a couple of placed efforts, he won a Fontwell bumper back in May by 7-lengths at odds-on and if he can translate that form to hurdles, he will be winning in novice company. 2.... more Read Blog Sep 30

08:19 Horse Racing Sunday Racing Preview Races Covered Epsom 3. 55 Musselburgh 4. 10 Epsom 5. 30 3. 55 Epsom - At Epsom more than any other flat track in the country, previous course form tends to stand up well and history shows that time and time again, previous course winners come back here and win again.... more Read Blog Sep 28

23:31 Horse Racing Saturday Racing Preview Races Covered Market Rasen 2. 40 Haydock 3. 15 Newmarket 3. 40 2. 40 Market Rasen - With plenty of young improving horses, it may seem foolish to side with hardy perrenial MAHOGANY BLAZE in this handicap chase but 33/1 looks too tempting. In an admiral career, the selection has been placed on numerous occasions behind such greats as Master Minded, Well Chief, Twist Magic and Big Zeb, usually over a 2-mile trip.... more Read Blog Sep 26
Thursday Horse Racing Preview
22:21 Horse Racing Thursday's Racing Preview Races Covered Pontefract 3. 30 Pontefract 4. 05 Newmarket 5. 25 3. 30 Pontefract - Heavy ground is likely at Pontefract and that wouldn't appear on paper at least to be ideal for many of these 5f sprinters. Bronze Beau could make all but this is a stiff track and I think it may be worth chancing KELLYS EYE.... more Read Blog Sep 25
Strategy - How Important Is Weight Carried In Horse Racing?
20:00 Strategy ‘Weight stops trains’ they say but does it really? I am not convinced that things are that simple and by way of this blog, I hope to find ways to exploit what could be said to be a rather simplistic handicapping system. Now anyone who has read stuff from me before may have picked up that I don’t do systems.... more Read Blog Sep 22
Racing - Ayr Bronze, Silver And Gold Cups
00:06 Horse Racing Ayr stage the remarkable trio of 6f handicaps known as the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups this Saturday and that is a rare treat, if you like that sort of thing! I do and so hopefully I can find at least one of the winners; 1. 45 Ayr (Bronze Cup) - Not an original selection maybe but CHEVETON has taken one of the three cups for the past two years and both times, off higher marks than today.... more Read Blog Sep 19
Horse Racing - Billy121only's Thursday Preview
22:42 Horse Racing 2. 30 Pontefract - When looking at apprentice races and amateur races, it is a useful mindset to focus on uncomplicated horses and BARTLEY is probably in that category. Tends to race prominently and then stay on without quickening too much and hopefully, he will get straight into a god position from stall 3. His record suggests the showers will be welcome should they manifest and he comes from a yard in a bit of form. 2.... more Read Blog Sep 17
Horse Racing - Sir Mark Prescott To Strike At Yarmouth With Samarkand
20:19 Horse Racing 4. 30 Yarmouth - EXPOSE has natural speed to burn as befits his pedigree and this looks a fair opportunity for him to recapture his form. One of the things that is evident from his form is that he is better in small fields and with just 7 due to line-up, he has that in his favour at least.... more Read Blog Sep 15
Racing Selections For Sunday 15th September
23:25 Horse Racing 2. 40 Bath - BUZZ LAW is strongly fancied to defy top weight in this mile handicap. Significantly, this 4-y-o’s last two wins have been earned on fast ground and he also comes here fresh for this stage of the season. Caught many an eye when fourth at Newmarket last time in a better race than this and this looks an excellent opportunity to gain win number four. 3.... more Read Blog Sep 14
Portland Handicap Preview
20:46 Horse Racing Camelot secures the Triple Crown in 40 minutes and Strong Suit justifies favouritism in the OLBG Sponsored Park Stakes in the race after. That all sounds nice and easy doesn't it but the Portland Handicap provides punters with a much stiffer challenge. The first horse to take my eye yesterday was KALDOUN KINGDOM.... more Read Blog Sep 14
Football - Championship Matches Friday & Sunday
17:12 Football Brighton vs SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY - Brighton could go top of the Championship this evening should they defeat Sheffield Wednesday and ordinarily, I would attach some relevance to that. However, the same is true of the away team and so only a draw will prevent a new, albeit probably temporary leader of the second tier.... more Read Blog Sep 13
OLBG Park Stakes - Full Preview
22:35 Horse Racing Just in case anyone has missed it, OLBG are sponsoring the Park Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday, a race to be shown live on Channel 4 after the St Leger. Hopefully, the atmosphere will be electric after Camelot's expected Triple Crown victory and below is my take on the chances of each runner. STRONG SUIT is the favourite and his credentials are certainly strong.... more Read Blog |
